Mixing
Why mix?
- Huge financial savings compared to buying pre-made E-liquid.
- Customize to any base ratio and nicotine strength you want.
- You decide what flavorings goes into your E-liquid.
- Ability to customize your batch size.
- One shots is getting more in demand so you can experience “premium” juice for cheap.
What's in E-Liquid?
Propylene Glycol (PG)
PG Has a really thin consistency, like water. It adds minimal throat hit, and it produces minimal clouds. More PG content works great in atomizers that doesn't wick well as this base is relative thin in the consistency. Adding some PG can potentially increase the throat hit by a touch. Some users may experience an irritations using too much PG as a “thickly” feeling in the throat.
Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
VG Has a really thick consistency, like syrup. It adds minimal throat hit, and it's the base that produces the clouds. More VG content works great if you want bigger clouds or if you want to
Concentrates
Nicotine (Optional)
Nicotine is the main base that will satisfy your throat hit. Increase or decrease depending on your preferred throat hit. They are available in PG base, VG base, and in a mix also called “VPG”. It's recommended to purchase your nicotine base in PG because it's easier to shake it before use. Always shake the nicotine base so the PG/VG base and the nicotine blends well together.
Distilled Water (Optional)
Distilled Water can be an alternative replacement for PG. It has the same consistency as PG, just without the irritation that some users may experience with PG, and it adds no throat hit.
Weight vs volume
What you need
E-liquid Bottles
HDPE Bottles
These are great for your PG/VG base, since they are easily available in 250ml and 500ml with your preferred nozzle. Nozzles that you can cut to your preferred depth is recommended as you can choose how fast of a stream you want. This is a neat trick to pour your thick VG base faster and still be accurate for bottles with a narrow neck. They usually come in either 24mm or 28mm neck, and “Boston bottles” are more narrow than “regular bottles” for a better grip, but also taller.
Graduated Pipettes
These are great for transferring nicotine and concentrates that doesn't have a nozzle to your E-liquid bottle. They are fairly inexpensive, and you can toss them after use without feeling guilt, and the benefit is no cleaning compared to syringes. You will be able to find 100x for around €5 the 3ml version.
Scale
A Digital jewelry scale is recommended for mixing E-liquid. For extra precision your scale should measure down to .01g and support up to 250-500g. The “tare” feature is also recommended so you can reset the numbers when changing base/concentrates.
Making a recipe
To make a recipe, we have to insert a few numbers. In this case, we will be using e-Liquid-Recipes. This site has a built in free e-liquid calculator that will convert volume to weight automatically for you, so you never need to worry about converting ml to gram.
- Amount to make ml: Volume of the final product.
- Desired strength mg/ml: The final nicotine strength you want.
- Water/Vodka/PGA %: Insert the % if you are using water, vodka or something else.
- Desired PG %: The final ratio of your E-liquid.
- Desired VG %: The final ratio of your E-liquid.
- Max VG: Enabling this will let you use as much VG as you can. It will disable Desired PG/VG.
- Nicotine strength mg/ml: This is the strength of your nicotine base. It will be labeled on your nicotine bottle.
- PG-content of nicotine %: Insert the PG/VG ratio of your nicotine base
- VG-content of nicotine %: Insert the PG/VG ratio of your nicotine base
- Add flavor: This is where you add the flavor(s) you will be using. Also insert %.

Storing
Nicotine base
Store your nicotine base inside glass bottles with a proper cap so the air cannot escape. Air will degradly ruin your nicotine base over time, and it's recommended that you store your nicotine in 50-100ml bottles. Do not store your nicotine base in large bottles since this will trap a lot of air inside a bottle over a long period of time. You should store your nicotine in a cool and dark room. Good way to store your nicotine base is inside fridge or a freezer since it's cool and dark. Your nicotine base will not freeze.
PG/VG base
You can store PG/VG bases in most common E-liquid bottles (PET, LDPE, HDPE, and glass bottles). It should be stored in a cool dark room, and fridge or freezer is not required. We recommend to store your PG/VG base inside the bottles you will be mixing from.
Concentrates
Store your concentrates in the original bottle it came in. It should be stored in a cool dark room.
E-liquid
Store your E-liquid in either PET, LDPE, HDPE, or glass bottles. Try to keep it in a cool temperature, and from direct sunlight.
